View Full Version : How to update to F9

Sorry this is such a stupid question.

To update to F9 from F8 without downloading any of the media, and installing from that do you go into the package manager, change the repositories to updates-testing and development?

Or is it just updates-testing?

(I am aware of the problems you can encounter by doing it this way and I know the recommended method is to burn the media and do it that way).

Thanks,
Aaron

down load the fedora-release rpm for fedora 9 and then do a update

Isn't that only released in the final version?

Ahh thanks.
It's easier than I thought (just download preupgrade and run it :))

I was under the illusion that you just had to enable the testing repos in package manger and then do a system update.

Thanks for clearing that up

EDIT:
"To update to rawhide via yum

To update to rawhide via yum, simply enable the 'Fedora Development' repository.

Note that test releases of Fedora are configured to update via rawhide by default."

Does this mean you can do it this way too?

Can I add that my install using preupgrade failed it downloaded all the updates and in var/yum/anaconda-updates (approx 1gb) and then added an update folder to my boot folder and added an entry to my grub screen.I rebooted then got an error saying that the installer ended abnormally, upon reboot into fed 8 and re-running preupgrade it hangs on downloading boot image the message saying it ran out of memory!! (I have added my problem to the end of this link http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=185994 but no-one's answered it as might be in wrong place!)

If I wanna restart can I safely delete the update folder in boot as i've removed the anaconda-updates safely & what can i do to remove the entry in grub's boot menu??
