I have a PPC DVD burned from ISO (SHA1SUM OK!) that does not boot. Holding 'c' does not boot the disc. Holding Option (ALT) gives me the HD as the only bootable device. BUT the DVD is readable. When I go into openfirmware and type:

1> boot cd:,ppc\mac\yaboot

It launches yaboot successfully from CD and I get a message saying it can't find yaboot.conf and drops me into:

boot>

I then try to launch kernel with initrd but the boot fails unable to mount ROOT:

boot> cd:,ppc\ppc32\vmlinuz initrd=/ppc/ppc32/ramdisk.image.gz ro

That's as far as I got. The initrd parameter does not seem to be functional. I can't launch install image. Any insight will be appreciated.

Why bother with F9 alpha ?

They released F9 beta yesterday

Um, yeah .. it took almost a week to download Alpha via bittorrent with no one seeding. I'm waiting for a jigdo template for Beta. Anyhow, I don't expect Beta to magically address my issue.

Can someone help me boot the install image from yaboot? Am I missing something?

I wouldn't be so sure that the Beta won't fix it. Keep in mind that alphas are pretty rough...

Any reason you're not just using a stable release? The stable releases are very well seeded and shouldn't take as long - I've downloaded DVD install media in a matter of hours when well-seeded (though, I'm not sure what sort of connection you're on).

PS - since alphas and betas aren't really official yet, you're probably not going to get much help here on pre-release problems. Just a thought.
