Encrypted Root Drive using loop-AES

I've seen many guides on how to install loop-aes into a root partition, but all require you to have an existing linux bootable partition to create it. I was wondering if their was any way to set it up from a live CD ???

You can use Knoppix for this

Have you actually ever got the encrypted root partiton method to work. I was trying to use the Howto over on the Gentoo forums(by Chadders :)) but could never get it to work.I am going to give it another whirl at the end of this semester If anyone wants to try along with me.
