Am I the only person being offered an update from kernel-2.4.22-1.2188 to 2.4.22-1.2194, red exclamation button glowing in the bottom RHS of the screen, and being unable to get it downloaded for two days now no matter how often I try?

Yep, because the rest of us are on FC2 and kernel 2.6. Kidding aside, have you changed the default site that up2date downloads from? I usually do because the default is so bogged down.

I am a big advocate of yum because you have better flexibility and get better results. Try "yum update kernel" and see if you get any errors. Yum is more likely to report a problem while up2date tends to hang when a problem occurs.

I'd love to be on FC2, but haven't got time to hack things round for a week if it doesn't update without problems at the first time of asking! Just got my web site locked down!

Yum dowloands all the headers okay, then reports:

I will do the following:
[install: kernel 2.4.22-1.2194.nptl.i686]
Is this ok [y/N]: y
Getting kernel-2.4.22-1.2194.nptl.i686.rpm

Probably not a politically correct thing to say, but what do Microsoft do different for Windows XP Windows Update? Any lessons that can be applied to Fedora?? Windows Update seems to scale okay and never seems to have load problems - while up2date throws checksum errors when a download didn't work, which isn't helpful nor a true reflection of what happened.

In the meantime, i'll retry the yum update kernel when the USA are mostly back asleep...
