I have installed a new harddrive and put Linux Fedora core 5 into it. Everything is OK except for my HP 2575 which is showing on my 'computer' but at the moment does not print anything. I need to download the driver for it. I have been to 'sourceforge' thru H.P., but have not found a driver. Can anyone help please?. If so can you give me precise details on the operation. Thank you

Moved to Hardware. I hope that you're aware that Fedora Core 5 is no longer supported and you really should consider using Fedora 7 or Fedora 8 instead.

Fedora Core 5 is obsolete and unsupported. You should upgrade to a supported version (Fedora 7 or 8)
The drivers for HP printers are included in the distribution, install them with "yum install hplip hpijs".

You may still be able to download them from here: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/i386/ Since yum won't be working for FC5 anymore, I'd suggest you install them with RPM instead: http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/s1-intro-to-rpm-lets-get-started.html

Good luck, but this is a very poor solution for the future. You really should update instead.

Search the forum, we covered this ( hplip ) yesterday, although who knows if it worked or not :)

Like they said above, FC7 changed things ( that was a fork right guys? ) and you upgrade so you have an actively developed OS/kernel whatever.

I have seen posts saying they can't upgrade due to hardware issues, etc. I wonder how often that is true?

Thanks everyone, for your replies. I'll try your sugestions to download the drivers , but updating to F8 seems the best idea. Where would be the best place to get the dvd from

http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora is the official site, or for the most recent updates: http://torrent.fedoraunity.org/ (BTW, stay away from Fedora 9 Alpha for now - it's very early and very buggy).

At last I have the printer working, Please, don't ask what I did because I tried so many different ways and then out of the blue it starting printing a backlog of trial runs that were still in the memory. Although I now have eveything up and running I still intend to install Fedora 8, so I may be back.
Thanks everyone for your support
