I am in the market for a new sata dvdburner for under $50 and with good support for GNU/Linux , any recommendations?

Hmmm, I guess no one here has a sata dvd burner that was easy.

maybe try a local store with a libral return policy?
Here there is a place called Frys they have good prices on their sale items everyweek and a very libral return policy.
That way you can try it out and if you don't like it take it back.

They also have on line sales at frys.com but then you get hit with shiping.

My guess, as long as you stick with something built to a standard you wont have any trouble with it. I don't know though mine is still ATA or PATA or what ever the old stuff was/is.
