Hi, all.
I was wondering if anybody knows of a list of usb modems that are known to work with linux. I have a Dell inspiron 5100 i'm fixing up with fedora for a friend and the internal modem is fried.
Please don't point me to Google-linux, I've been down that road and i ended up more confused than when i started.
I've seen the Zoom Model 3095F on their site, it looks promising, but what I'm hoping is I can find one cheaper on eBay. :)

Hello:

You can try: http://fedora-linux.nl/wiki/index.php/HCL, or (probably better) http://www.linux-drivers.org/network.html, or https://hardware.redhat.com/.

Okay, I have a Hiro USB modem with an Agere chip I bought for $19.99, it works good. The linux drivers source code is on the installation cd for Fedora Core 4, Suse and some others. I compiled and installed those. Make sure the usbutils package is installed. Instructions on the cd are very good, I'd like to know how to modify the source to make it work on Core 7, too -- maybe somebody could show me how? If so, I might get one for myself, the old laptop's built-in modem ain't too good, the usb modem would come in handy for that because the Hiro modem is small, i can curl my fingers all the way around it, i'll post pics if anyone wants 'em.
