I got a minor problem with the last FireFox. Sometimes, it freezed completely for 5 seconds. Hope this new one won't....

does the installer create menu entries? that's pretty much my only "worry". well, i guess i'll find out soon enough! *crossing fingers*

I extracted firefox into the right directory as previously i tried to use the installer but it seemed to install it somewhere other than where yum and apt installed 0.8 versions. (even when I selected the install location!)
I like it, but even using the small icons IMO too much space is wasted around the icons in grey-space.
Its all good! (apart from k/b arrow buttons not working in text input areas!)
PS I extracted it into the aready created/usr/lib/firefox, and upon starting the profile manager sorted the importing of previous settings!

if you install the tarball it does not create a link in your menu....but you can always create it yourself from the desktop or by right clicking on your desktop and goto creat a launcher or what you know as windoz shortcut :D

I've built a RPM for Fedora Core 1
http://johan.buret.free.fr/firefox-0.9-1.dag.i386.rpm.torrent (http://johan.buret.free.fr/firefox-0.9-1.dag.i386.rpm.torrent) for the torrent
and http://johan.buret.free.fr/RPMS/ (http://johan.buret.free.fr/RPMS/) to get them the old way
the "dag" in the name comes from the .spec file, I used a slightly modified version of Dag Wieers' one.

How do I submit this package ?
The package isn't even signed by a GPG key - I guess It's a no-no

There's a bit in the spec file that should run that.

It was the first time I build and released a .rpm, sorry for the quirks.
But I don't get the "/sbin/ldconfig" thing, since there was in the .spec
%post
/sbin/ldconfig 2>/dev/null
%{_libdir}/firefox/firefox-rebuild-databases.pl &>/dev/null || :
Anyway, I rebuild it.

There's an issue in the 0.9 release of firefox and the 0.7 release of thunderbird that's related to the new extension manager. The new extension manager is supposed to allow system adminstrators to install extensions systemwide. The adminsitrator can also prevent users from installing extensions all together and so on. This is great, but sadly, it doesn't work.
With the new releases, you have to run firefox or thunderbird once as root, using X, before any of the users are allowed to start it. It's a nasty thing, since sometimes adminsitrators don't even have X. This is what's preventing the firefox package from fedora.us from beeing released, the thunderbird package has some other issues as well as the one mentioned.
There are bug fix releases out now, firefox 0.9.1 and thunderbird 0.7.1, but I'm not sure these will fix the issue mentioned, nor if this means that the packages will be released shortly, I sure hope it does.
For more information read this email from Warren Togami: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-desktop-list/2004-June/msg00083.html
