Well, I got frustrated with getting my old PC runing on Fedora core 6 back in the day and was using Ubuntu 6.10> I recently upgraded computers(Intel core 2 Quad Q6600, 8800GT,2gb ram) and Ubuntu was being a PAIN to get anything working due to my new video card. I thought I would give Fedora another shot and WOW, I dont know what they did, but the distro is about 10000x better than last time i tried it. It took some messing around but i got my nvidia driver(169.09) to work and everything, including my surround sound and media works with no extra code writing.
Windows Vista is on my system for only 1 reason now, to game. I run dual boot and gave my bigger 250gb HD to Fedora. Anyways, I have to say the Red Hat guys have me impressed with this latest release, it works GREAT!

Hey Rice_slayer,
What surround speakers are you using? What sound card? What did you do to test the surround sound?
Thanks

Im using a best buy house brand Dynex DX-SC51 and use Logitech X530 speakers. I just messed with the volumes and got it working as it plays all my Mp3s in 5.1 surround sound, so Im happy.
back on topic for my thread, I had vista crash twice in a month, FC8 going strong and I have had NO issues with it at all, Im very impressed with the upgrade from FC6 to FC8, Fedora was bad on media now it works great!

I'm on my way back to.
Pretty much sick of Ubuntu. Been using 6.1 and Studio 7.x.
Main reason I switched, was because I wanted to use the computer more than writing how tos (some of which have been archived here).
Simple things like rippimng DVDs etc took to much to work out.
The biggest selling point Fedora has is the community and these forums. Ubuntu never "felt" right.
Waiting for my dual core rig to get built for me to fdisk everything and gof rom there.
Couple weeks at most.
