Hello I wanted to let you all know about an application you can install on your computer that will aid in finding a cure for cancer and other diseases.

I am currently crunching SETI units, I have also signed up fr the BOINC beta. I will set that up and tart crunching that soon.

One of the more innovative DC (distributed computing) projects is ABC@home (http://abcathome.com). Their science application is a 64-bit Linux application and it screams... runs 2X to 3X faster than the 32-bit version. If you would like to donate your computer's spare CPU cycles to a worthy cause and run one of the fastest and most efficient projects then be sure to take a look at ABC@home (http://abcathome.com).

Their research is the ABC Conjecture, one of mathematic's long standing and unproven conjectures. It's not as exciting as the protein, drug and cancer research you can help with at other projects but remember, mathematics is one of the foundations that all research is built upon. If we want to advance research in general then we need to advance mathematics as well.

If you want to find out more about Distributed Computing in general and how you can make a difference please take a look at the BOINC project (http://boinc.berkeley.edu). There you will discover how DC works and will see a list of 20 or so projects that you can take part in. The projects are in various fields: earth science, biology & medicine, mathematics, astronomy, etc. It doesn't cost much, you know exactly how your donation is being used, you can contribute as much or as little as you like and you can quit anytime.
