Hi,

I successfully attach a range of USB devices to a machine running Fedora 7. The only device that has a problem attaching is a Windows Mobile 5 PDA (TMobile MDA Vario 2 = HTC device). I expect to see the device under Nautilus file manager as some kind of disk drive - but the PDA is not visible in Nautilus - I think the problem is "lower" in device detection and support. This device was supported under Fedora 5 kernel 2.6.something.

Is there a known bug and/or fix for this? Any idea what is causing this? Should I raise a bug? (never done that before).

The messages from dmesg are below.

Look closely - its a problem with VMware and USB. If you can use your usb device natively, I'd suggest disabling VMware's usb support. Check "VM->Removable Devices->USB Devices"

Hi

I understand what you are saying. I saw the reference to VMWare in the messages. The problem occurs when VMWare is not running any virtual machines - although, I suppose (and this is a guess) some "components" of VMware may be started when Linux boots. Hence, no VM has ownership of any USB device when these messages were issued as no VM was running.

The problem is (I guess) some problem with native Linux USB support for the PDA - that has changed in the past "few" months (I can't remember exactly the last date the PDA did successfully connect to Linux over USB.

Thanks

Clive

I have cross-posted to the VMWare Workstation forum in case there are any suggestions from there.
