HP 2300c scanner

I saw that this scanner was supposedly fully supported at the sane website, so when I saw it I grabbed it. OK, do I need to load a driver? The sane tool to sense a scanner does see this scanner, but, since the scanner is recognized by chipset, not maker, the operative file is genesys.conf and not hp.conf. OK, but how do I tell the scanner software to use this as the scanner now? BTW, since I have a couple of USB devices, I will apparently need to specify port or device or something, since the scanner software keeps wanting to look at my TV card as the input device. OK, so where is the file which needs to be told which scanner I have? What is the syntax for that file when I find it?
