soundcard cannot be detected bt werewolf

i just installed fedora core 8 today, but the weird thing is that my ancient sound card cannot be detected what so ever, but it works perfectly under fedora core 6 and 7. the only explanation i could think of is PulseAudio cannot support my ancient sound card. it is really annoying. please help
