Hi Guys,

yesterday 1 of my friend gave me 6 CD pack of Fedora Core as I was very excited to install it

As he told me I have made 1 Drive of 16.7 Gb ext3 Linux format and I already had 1 Swap Partition of 4 GB (my ram is 2 GB DDR2)

he told me this thing is enough to install fedora so I booted 1st CD of Fedora pressed enter then black screen appeared with text and at the end of the screen it says

Code 48 8b ..................... (blah blah) .... Console Shuts Up
<0> Kernel Panic - not syncing : Aiee, Killing interrupt handler

Please Help me

I really want to install Fedora Core

my PC Specs :

2 x 250 GB hdd SATA2
2 GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Athlon x64 4400+ Processor
and ATi x1200 onboard Graphics

Please help me sort out this problem

Thank You

You should understand that Fedora6 is about to reach 'end of life' : http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=170601 Fedora8 is about to be released tomorrow and I'd certainly rather see you simply download either Fedora7 or Fedora8 than to install Fedora6. http://fedoraproject.org/ You can either download a DVD version or a LiveCD version, which has a built-in installer.

Hi Zerosleep,
What hes's saying is that Fedora Core 6 is an old version of Fedora linux. He recommends using Fedora 7 or Fedora 8 instead. By using LiveCD you can test your system for compability without erasing your data in your hard drive. Also installation of Fedora is possible from LiveCD.

Fedora 8 is published in few days so wait for awhile. This way your error might be solved in F8 already (if it's a compability issue) ;)

There was probably some bug in the kernel shipped on Fedora 6 CDs, which appears only on some HW configuration (as yours). Try Fedora 7 or Fedora 8 (will be relleased tomorrow), where is new kernel with a lot of bug fixes and new features.

Or you can download Fedora 8 RC3 already today from http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ ;)

There are local vendors you can get the disks from.

Hi,
I download Fedora 7 from my Friend ... on LAN

So I burned the image on a DVD but wtf ? still it doesn't get installed but this is no error as such... on the black screen in the end it says ... Net Prefatched registered something (I dont remember) and then the installation could not go further :(

Well, the first question would be did you do a media check on the DVD?

Second, what exactly is the error message?
