View Full Version : Strange DVD problem

I have a box of DVD +R disks: some of them clean, some burned >1 year ago (with gnomebaker, FC4).
Now I burned another one (FC8 iso, on FC6, gnomebaker), but after burning it did not recognize the disk (dd shows "no medium found"). So I tried burning another one, slower, from the same set of DVDs. Same result. Now, these DVDs are recognized correctly in another laptop (FC6). The strangest thing is that the disks burned >1 year ago are ok in my laptop too, and they are from the same box, same DVD drive, different gnomebaker version. Also, rewritable medium is not recognized: cannot burn it, cannot format it. I also burned another DVD +R with K3B (TDK dvd this time, different sort); same result, burned correctly, but not recognized afterwards.

I suspect something is wrong with my DVD drive (TSSTCorpCD/DVDW TS-L532U). I have a x64_64 asus laptop, 2.6.20-1.2952.fc6. But if something is wrong with it, why does it read the old DVDs (same set of DVDs, burned with the same drive)? Why does it burn correctly, but cannot read? Any ideas?

Thanks,
edek

I think that because its an older DVD device it may require different format method like some CD players cant read Cd's made in the last year try using a system with the ability to format fore older and no supported operating systems.
Hope this helps.
