im having the following troubles mounting my cd rom.
i have the mount at mnt/cdrom/
i cant open audio cds through my icon at all. im not sure if there is some specific way we are supposed to mount the cdrom so i can open up cds on it but i cant open any, i have tried various.
the only cd is will open is the fedora cd, which i am not able to eject at all once i do.
what is wrong?

use the command:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

i used that command and recieved the following:
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/cdrom already mounted or /mnt/cdrom busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/cdrom is already mounted on /mnt/cdrom
i am new to the system, though i believe on a previous install i was able to eject cds and read audio cds so im not sure what i had done differently.
let me know what i can do

at the command line enter
mount
to check what is mounted.
mount /mnt /cdrom to mount a cd
umount /mnt/cdrom to unmount a cd
and
eject to eject a cd
sounds like you cd is mounted already

correct.
using super-user mode instead of a normal terminal, root user
i was able to use the eject command to eject cds, though it would be nice to be able to do it through the right click eject option.
as for the mounting, it appears to be mounted, but when i have any cd other than a fedora cd i get an open error, even if its an audio cd.
perhaps i need some audio software?
or perhaps im just using the wrong cds?

be able to do it through the right click eject option.
the desktop right click looked a bit buggy in the test releases.
it might be a bug?
/edit
as to the cd's, diskmounter seems to mount them fine, rhythmbox works well.
are the disk finalised and what sort music files?

the cds are regular purchased audio cds.

I think this is a bug because I have the same problem. I don't know when it occurs but I usually notice it at the end of the day. I think it might occur when I switch between audio and video cds and audio and video apps.
It's like you say, though. I'll open xmms and decide I want to listen to an audio cd so I try to eject the one that's currently mounted. The cd drive won't eject so I'm forced to unmount and eject it manually. Now when I insert the audio cd it will no longer mount automatically so I have to mount it manually as well. And guess what, "I could not mount this device. Perhpas it's not a readable format."
At this point I usually restart.

You can't mount audio CDs.
Use cd-players that come with Gnome or Kde, or use Grip and other CD-rippers to rip.
Why would you want to mount audio CD?

If you can't properly eject or unmount cd is becouse you are "using" that cd. That means if you have file browser (nautilus) open on mount point /mnt/cdrom, if you use terminal and you are under /mnt/cdrom directory(change directory),....
Close nautilus or any other programs which might be using CD, then eject/umount...
