View Full Version : Starting F7 with a Dell 3007WFP Monitor

I've just finished installing F7 on a new box equipped with a GeForce 8800GTX card and a Dell 3007 monitor. I have i686 kernel 2.6.22.9-91.fc7 and nVidia driver 100.14.19 installed.

When I boot the box, the monitor displays a blue fuzzy appearance with a darker band at the top for about 15 sec, then everything appears normal. When login completes, the display is at the expected 2560x1600 resolution. I think the startup problem occurs while X11 is starting. It does not happen with a 1280x1024 monitor I have.

Can anyone assist with fixing this?

TIA,
Jon

Jon, I'm not sure what needs fixed. Do you need to have user access to the system while this is occurring?

Thanks, Tangled. After more trial reboots, this problem occurs when the boot procedure starts X11, than goes away when the login dialog is displayed. So I don't see the usual boot process output after X11 is started.

Of the 10 or so reboots I've done so far with the Dell monitor, one did display the full boot process. I'm scratching my head on this... A timing issue, perhaps?

Timing and mode maybe.

Just for giggles, I hooked up an old DELL monitor I had here. Then booted elive out of an old AMD 300. Initially, it displayed correctly, then went stupid after the GRUB screen faded. It stayed out of sync until X loaded and the login screen came up. From there on, it behaved nicely -- only to go stupid again after X quit and during the low-res part of the shut down sequence.

Methinks older DELL monitors work well on DVD players ... and not much else!

Thanks again, Dan.

I have a thread open on the NVNEWS forums re this - I'll post again if they have any ideas.
