problem wirh vlc : can't play stream

I am unable to play http stream in vlc . it is also not playing udp stream it gives the following error :

I saw i had not installed the gstreamer-plugins-bad
But even after installing the problem persists

http://radio.junta.iitk.ac.in:8000/hadees It seems to be an invalid address. Try another?

Actually you might not have been able to open it because I m behind proxy server and this is a local http stream ..it plays well in xmms but not in vlc .

Then I'm afraid I'm lost here. Sorry, but I don't know enough about these things to offer any other suggestions.
