I've tried to update ipw2100 firmware using yum, and now in /lib/firmware I've ipw2100 firmware version 1.3. However, when i tried to activate my wireless device, it gives me a msg:

Determining IP information for eth1... failed; no link present. Check cable?

Can anyone tell me what do I need to do to get my wireless working ?? By the way, I am using Acer TravelMate 290.

Thanks.

Did you try iwconfig commands to scan the wireless networks around? If you can see the wireless networks around, means the device is properly drived. The problem could be related to your authorization (keys, MAC filters and so on), or with some of your router setting. I met similar situation before, the wireless card was properly up, yet couldn't connect to my home network. however, after resetting the router to factory default, wireless worked fine for me.

This is what i got when I type iwconfig:

eth1 unassociated ESSID:off/any Nickname:"ipw2100"
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power:16 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

What does this means ??

it seems that the wireless NIC don't see your Access point.

Start the NetworkManager and NetworkManagerDispatcher under system - administration - services and see the result.

However, just a thought, try to check the setting of the access point with those of your wireless card!!!
