i have some strange behaviour with my onbord nvidia nforce 2 soundcard...
often when i boot fedora ( tried 6 and 7, with various kernels, always the same problem) i get a popup message that says:

Sound server informaional message:
error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

sometimes a reboot fixes the problem and i get sound
sometimes I need to reboot several times until i get sound...

some ideas why this happens?
also in windows xp sound always works..

which log files would be helpful to find the problem?

thx

could this be related to apci problems:
http://http.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nforce/1.0-0306/KnownProblems.html
( Network and other devices randomly stop working when ACPI is enabled )

i will just give it a try ^^

*edit*
acpi=off and noacpi didn't help...
problem is still there

next strange thing:
i booted 3 times from knoppix 5.1 live cd one time kubuntu 6.10, 2 times cent os 5 live cd...

the sound seemed to work every time...

i don't get it...

*edit*

i installed kubuntu 6.10 on another partition now... everything works here... seems to be a fedora config problem :/
sad....
i will have to try kubuntu for a while, maybe with fedora8 it will work again...
