Hy,
Could be just a bad copy.
At the beginning of the installation, you've got the opportunity to test your media so do it, you will at least know that your DVD is good.

others have installed fedora 7 using same dvd .and i have checked my dvd rom by trying other dvds.its working perfect.I have 1 doubt whether installation depends on motheboard like i have D102GGC intel motherboard while others had intel 945 or intel 946 motherbord and they were able to install it perfectly........

Some DVD-RW's dont like the medium or what another DVD-RW burns. You might try switching burners.

It can be done. Read this: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/fedora-install-guide-en/fc5/ch-other-install-methods.html. Important note: You cannot perform this procedure from NTFS formatted harddisks. (afaik)
What might cause your problem is the type of DVD you are using. Some DVD players can only read/write DVD+R while some can only read/write DVD-R. If your friend has e.g. a DVD-R player and you a DVD+R player, then it is only logical that his DVD cannot start on your system.
Another thing that might cause a problem is if your DVD and HDD drive are bot SATA drives. That sometimes confuses the system. Dunno of a fix for that though other than using a non-SATA DVD drive.

I am having the same problem. I am trying to dual boot Fedora 7 on my MacBook but it rejects the DVD. I know there is an option to install from the hard drive and sinces my hard drive is partitioned I think I might be able to do that but I am not sure how. I downloaded the torrent file from the Fedora Project website.
