slow speed with SLMODEM

Hi,

I'm new to Linux, and just wondering if anyone could give me some tips.

I've just installed Fedora Core 2 on my laptop and pretty much followed this guide, http://personal.eunet.fi/pp/joakim/nx7010.html

and almost everything has worked fine.

I've installed the SLMODEM driver (latest one) and used the snd-intel8x0m driver.

What I've found is that whilst dialed in, surfing the internet is very slow. Things will be loading, but then it'll pause, and then start d/l again. I use KPPP and the fastest that it will d/l at is around 2.0kbps which is very slow, considering in Windows, it will be much quicker (at twice the speed and no way near as laggy).

I'm not sure what the problem is, does anyone have any suggestions?
