hi I have just built the dream server

i am have with a

se7500wv2 board dual xeon
one xeon processor
500 gig drive
2x 512 ecc registered sever ram
yes i have the latest bios update

i built this server from scratch i got it to startup so i tested to see if a operating system would boot i used a live disk of simply mephis it booted up perfectly

then i tried to install fedora 7 it froze
then Debian it failed
then mandrake it froze in installation
the i tried to install fedora 6 it froze
so then finally i tried fedora 5
i got it to start up the installation
but it froze on regular startup
so then I restarted the installation on fedora 5 with nothing being installed but yum ,wget and a few terminal command

when i got it installed
i installed the latest kernal
when i got it installed i restarted when I booted them up i get kernal will not synce

so i boot up from the last kernal it works

i booted it up i logged in through a terminal and tried to install kde I got xserver up and when it booted up in kde the computer restarted

so i tried to installed

xcfe
i got it to boot up
no problem

right now i am trying to install gnome

does anybody have any idea why i cant anything to work in the world of linux on this computer

is it due to me haveing one cpu on a dual motherboard

why cant i get kde to boot up

thank you in advance

I cannot speak to the other distros, only Ferdora.

Please tell us when it froze (what was th elast msg or screen.
Try the text only install (and tell us exactly when it freezes if it does).
Try the fedorra7 live Cd and let us know if that works.

You really need to provide more diagnostic facts. "It froze" doesn't help much.
What are your disks ? What is the interface chips ?
Boot the mepis live and type "lspci" and post it.
What is your video interface card ?

when i mean froze i mean when you type cap lock the light goes on and when you type it it goes of when the computer is frozen the light will not change

I was using the rescue disk for fedora 6, 7 and they all froze at

checking if image is initramfs ... it is

but fedora 5 booted up perfectly

if you mean by interface chip i am assuming you mean chipset intel e7500
