Hi folks,

I came across following topics on web browsing

World's First True System on a Chip
http://www.sun.com/processors/UltraSPARC-T2/?intcmp=hp2007aug07_ultrasparct2_learn

Sun Enters the Commodity Silicon Business
http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan/entry/sun_enters_the_commodity_silicon

My questions are :-

- Sun's processors avilable on markets as single chips?
- Are mobo available on market for Sun's chips?

If YES, links will be appreciated.

On searching technology in re building blade server from components I came across following links;
power.org
blade.org
Google platform
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_platform

However NOT much information I can find. Any input? TIA

Ask Sun sales. They know the product and can sell it to you.

AFAIK Sun's "system" architecture is not Open, like the PC architecture is, meaning Sun builds everything, just like Apple does, from the Motherboards, to the CPUs, to the various controllers. This doesn't mean they "manufacture" it, they may have third party companies (just like Apple) to do that for them, but sure enough, they integrate everything and build the systems, so your best bet would be to ask Sun directly if they've got third parties selling stuff for their systems.

If you have the means you can now build your own sparc cpus.

Hi devzero,

Tks for your URL

If you have the means you can now build your own sparc cpus.
Whether you meant to manufacture the cpu? Or get a basic chip and program it yourself?

In the later case where to shop the basic chip. What equipment is needed other than chip-burner?

TIA

Sparc has been like that for some time now, and Sun has been poor to license the architecture, IIRC. At any rate, I don't believe you can simply go out at a hardware retailer or dealer and order a bunch of Sparc CPUs and motherboards for them.
