My laptop is a hp nc6400. Installed fedora 7 and tried burning a cd image to a cd-r.
Have tried using the already built in feature for whatever is in the right click menu "Write to Disc..."
also used k3b. Both say that there's an error, and ask me to insert a writable blank disc.
I have tried different makes and am sure they are blank. Could there be some permission problem of not being able to write to the device? e.g /dev/sg0's permission...

Thanks

Although I have the nc6400 as well, I've never seen this one... under FC6, at least the burner works. I don't think I ever tried to burn anything under F7, though; as you may recall from the other thread, my sleep/hibernate works better under FC6, which is why I'm using that now.

Do you have the MATSU****A DVD burner? That's what I have...

Have you tried more than one brand of media? It's weird, but I've seen issues a couple times in the past where a burner just wouldn't take a specific media brand. I've not encountered that with this laptop, but with burners in general.

Ok, the forum software censored the name of the brand of the burner. I'm sure you can figure it out, though.

It isn't really an obscenity, it's a Japanese company name, though an English profanity is embedded within it. ;-)

I got the MATSH*TA UJDA775 dvd/cdrw too, turns out it doesnt like the disc's i'm feeding it with. So tried the more expensive ones and that worked! Thanks
