Please folks, help solve this! I am new to Fedora, and having spent nearly a week trying to get my laptop working properly I am becoming seriously tempted to go back to windows - please don't let that happen!

Using the current kernel (2.6.22), FC7, and the most recent ATI drivers (8.40.4 from freshrpms) suspend and hibernate are both broken. They both just hang after "suspending consoles..." is displayed requiring a hard power-off cycle to get it back up.

Hours and hours of searching and all I have managed to find is that I'm not the only person tearing my hair out over this issue...

It seems Fedora don't care because it's a proprietary driver, and ATI just don't seem to care about Linux, period.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to try? I believe downgrading the kernel can help, so how would I do that?

Should I just go and buy a nVidia card?! :)

Hmm, I downgraded to Kernel 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 as according to this post (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=836011&postcount=475) and now hibernate is working again. Yet to try suspend, but I suspect I can get it working.
