Hi guys,

I opened this thread because I have a malefic idea of changing my laptop. I have a Lenovo which I bought because Lenovo produced since always the IBM laptops and I expected more than "the standard stuff" from it and I was wrong :D . It works fine and I'm pleased with it, but still I was wrong :p . I had an IBM laptop before this one, a T30, which was old, but I was impressed by it.

So ... I want to know opinions and recommendations on what is the best fit (brand and/or model) from all points of view including, and very important linux compatibilities / issues.

I guess the most compatible nowadays are Dells and HPs, generally speaking. Personally, I would go for an Asus, but they say they're horrible in terms of Linux compatibility.
If I had to choose, I'd go for a HP with a Centrino 2 Duo and a Nvidia card, then check each single component compatibility. Or see if anyone has posted either in this (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=137531) thread or on the Internet any compatibility issues for your chosen brand/model.

I have the widescreen HP dv8000 laptop and it works 100% perfectly with Fedora

some stats:
dual core intel cpu
2GB ram
intel 3945abg wireless card
nvidia 7700 PCIe 3d card
2 100GB sata drives
lightscribe CD/DVD R/RW
bluetooth

Notes:
svideo out/dual head works great
wireless with FC6 requires some 3rd party packagse and config
wireless with F7 works immediately after install
Bundled HP tvtuner PCIcard does not work in linux but for $99 I got a usb hauppauge 950
Included Media Center remote work with linux zero config required

Other notes:
I have had a few toshiba laptops, an IBM, and a Dell.. so far this HP has been the best and I expect to use it till the hardware cant function anymore
