Check serial ports

Guys how can someone check it the serial ports are working ok?
What command do we use?
Are the serial ports enabled by default or do we have to enable them?

you could try


su -
(enter you root PW)
setserial /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4 << my out put


and I am sure a


dmesg | grep tty
