Hello,

Although I'm new to linux I would like to play games on it. But I encountered a few issues. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with a Radeon 9600 M10 gfx card, running Fedora 7 (Moonshine).

I've installed Cedega 6.0 and the latest Linux drivers from ATI.

First issue is that the ATI Control Center is not working. Although all went fine with the installation.
Secondly there's no OpenGL acceleration it seems as the Cedega OpenGL video test fails.
Thirdly is the abominable D3D speeds. I've installed Warcraft III as the first game to test on my new Linux platform and it's an absolute nightmare. I get about 2 fps in the menu ?? Not to mention the game itself.

Is there anyone who can please this gamer who recently switched to Linux ? If gaming can't become an option for me then I'm forced back to Bill's miserable OS ...

Thanks in advance.

bad news, ATI and fedora or Linux in general do not get along, there are a ton of posts here on the subject. you might have to dual boot to run games. Yea see, IF you can get the video driver working, good for you, but cross your fingers if you update your kernel or, YIKS, X.org ! It will probably brake your driver mod, might even rf your box. Next time, for me too, nVidia!

Compile the vanilla kernel, use that and install fglrx with the installer on that, not the fedora kernels. I think that is your best bet. Those ati goofballs seem to watch the main current kernel compatibility at least, at least as far as I can tell with my limited experience with trying the driver.

ATi have so far done a poor job with their Linux drivers, too bad because I think if they jumped on the Linux bandwagon and released abundant drivers and specs they would see a surge in sales.

I don't know if this is what you want but there is a tutorial on the forum for how to install ati (fglx) via livna or w/e and how to use beryl.. it's a simple few steps and it did work for me.. I have dri enabled, if you want it just post back and I'll dig for it again
