View Full Version : No PCM Device

So, with the newest kernel (2.6.22.1-32.fc6), I have no sound... more precisely, no PCM device. With all the other kernels (2.6.20-1.****), it's fine.

Any ideas, or is this a revision thing (i.e., the very next kernel rev. will work just fine)?

BTW, I'm on 64-bit FC6 with an intel 82801G (ICH7), snd-hda-intel module. The PCM device is STAC92xx (you know, provided it loads).

Thanks!

Anyone have any ideas? So far it's happening with every 2.6.22 kernel.

I blew out /etc/modprobe.* and rebuilt 'em (after a reboot) with no luck, and an lsmod shows the sound card loads, but ALSA pretty much says it cannot access the card at address 0.

/proc/asound does not have a card0 directory, either (when booting w/the aforementioned kernel).

lspci output, so you know what hardware I'm dealing with.

Well, I 'fixed' it -- I had an older SB Live! card laying around so I disabled the onboard one and everything works fine. I know this card's been iffy in Linux anyways, so now I don't have to deal with it.
