log in as root user and type:
system-config-display --reconfig
From the menu click on device and choose vesa for the driver
Accept this configuration and then reboot
This will temporarily let you use your gui while you work on reinstalling your drivers.
How exactly did you install your drivers??

thank you for your help thats seems to have done it. I orriginaly insalled the driver by downloading it from Nvidia.com and using yum install

did you reinstall that driver? by choosing vesa as your driver basically you dropped all 3d acceleration and went to basic display support so you could use your gui.

Hello:
You really should avoid using the drivers directly from nvidia: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2006-February/msg01565.html
Use a good repackaged nvidia driver - here's a tutorial: http://www.diffingo.com/blog/content/view/32/33/ or http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f7.html#nvidia
