View Full Version : Did Fedora crap my HDD?

I was installing FC7 and suddently it crash and gave me input output error and now I can not install anything my desktop...
Any ideas?

I think your hdd crapped the install.

Get the tesing tools from the disk mfg and run them against the drive to see if it is good.
If possible do a zeros write to it a few times.
The use a liveCD and a boot disk with some format tool and format it about 3 times.

Then retest it.

If it is near failure this may show it and so you will need a new disk.

Hardware failure can not be corrected by software.

brand name dick drive web site - if there are no tools just format it a few times to stress it.

Does the drive still show up in bios ( if not pull the power cord and try again )

well looks like there is 96 errors in a 3 month old PATA hdd....
Damn piece of crap!!!

Still using the same drive? Expect to be replace, comes with warranty.

I bought three brand new Maxtor 250G PATA drives, one became unrecognized and the second one died after a month of usage. Took a month to replace each thru manufactor company. Now all Maxtor drives are happy camper so far.

Hu! Thats funny mine is a 250GIG PATA HDD from Maxtor too....
