I'm pretty new to linux and I haven't been able to successfully compile a program yet (it's pretty sad).
I've tried to download the RPMs from ATrpms, but none of them worked, said something about a possible connection error.
When I tried ./configure, it said I needed LAME, which I installed via a RPM, but it still said I needed it.
Linux is kicking my butt...
Any help/tips would be much appreciated.

I've got to be honest....starting on day 1 with Myth TV is going to be a challenge. There is so much to learn about Linux as far as installing and troubleshooting goes before things like mythTV start to become attainable.
I'm not trying to burst your bubble, just rest assured that if you spend the time and do figure it out, you are well on your way to becoming quite competent with Linux.

I got a little farther, but it doesn't know what qmake is. I also went to the add/remove programs and it keeps telling me it cannot retrieve the software information, possibly because of a network problem, but obviously, I am connected to the internet.
edit: had to remove atrpms.repo :)... can use pirut again.

I managed to install LAME, but I'm getting a error
"./configure: line 3500: qmake: command not found"
I'm guessing I'm missing something?
Edit:QT. Readme does wonders for problems :)
I guess the requirements are a little more important than I thought...

hold your horses. It sounds like you are going about it wrong. Let me find the tutorial I used...
Edit:
Here it is. It's for core 6, but the principle is the same.

Yeah, I was using that, but the atrpms broke my pirut.

Only enable ATRpms and then just get the MythTV stuff. Then disable ATRpm and enable everything else. You wont want to update MythTV that much anyway, just get it to work.

Heh, the directories changed. I edited the atrpms.repo, and I'm good to go :)

Glad it's on its way.

I tend to leave mine updating off ATrpms, but then I don't use livna. Also, Axel sometimes seems to break MythTV, so it is probably best to leave it off as JN suggests unless you need to update.

I seem to be having some problems with connecting to the MySQL database. It is running off of the standard port (3306), and I'm not sure how to change that, or change mythTV to run on that port.
my bad, very first screen
but now I'm getting "unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION: .37" when running mythfilldatabase

Just to throw this out there, there are at least two distro's that i can think of off the top of my head that are specially made to include mythTV and basically run after the install process. KnoppMyth and MythDora.

Yeah, I was aware of MythDora, if I can't get it to work (which I am REALLY close I think) I'll probably try that. I just didn't want to reinstall linux and everything.
I'm still getting
"unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION: .37"
I'm not sure what's wrong.
