I'm running Fedora Core 6 (x86_64) and have a broadcom integrated wireless card on my Compaq Presario V2000 that I've pretty much given up on, so I went out and bought a NETGEAR WG511T Wireless PC card w/an Atheros chipset. From what I've read online, madwifi works better than ndiswrapper so I installed madwifi from livna.

Now, I'm not a wireless guru. When I put the card in, one of the lights lights up but when I run system-config-network, it doesn't show up under devices. Under hardware, it shows up as:

Description: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC
Type: Ethernet
Device: wifi0
Status: ok

How do I get fedora to recognize it's a wireless card and get it to start up automatically?

Add this line to /etc/modprobe.conf
alias ath0 ath_pci
Then select te NetworkManader & NWDispatcher i nthe services gui tool & save.
Then reboot.

"lsmod | grep ath_pci" should show the driver loaded.
The NetworkManager icon will show the APs.
