Hi,
First I need to say that I am a newbie on linux.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 with Windows Vista Installed and I want to dual boot with
Linux, so I installed Fedora 7 but when I tried to boot on Linux I received the following...

-------
Booting 'Fedora (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7)'

root (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1e00, size=0x1e9dd4]
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.img
[Linux-initrd @ 0x37d31000, 0x2be711 bytes]
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the Kernel
-------

After this, the computer freeze and the only option is to shut it down.

So, I edit the boot at line

"Kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet"

I erased the 'quiet' option and the following appears the next time a boot the system
I saw many pages doing something and the last 5 lines before the freeze are...

--------
Freeing initrd memory: 2809K freed
Simple boot flag at 0x79 set to 0x1
apm: BIOS not found
audit: initializing netlink solbert (disabled)
audit(1183274776.402:1): initilized
--------

Could anyone help me on this I do not know why this happens.

Thank you !!!

I am not sure why, but I find adding noapic nolapic after where you took out "quiet" has helped my freezing issues before.

Did you install GRUB on the MBR or on the Linux partition?

I have a similar problem with Dell XPS M1210 trying to run Fedora 13.
I attempted to install via different methods, (live cd gnome - dvd)
The live cd seem s to be loading live desktop environment very slowly and then once loaded it takes an eternity to browse through menus or do anything let alone attempting an install.
The dvd installation rarely gets past anaconda loading and therefore I am always having to reset computer and restart. I have noticed that on both occasions the cd/dvd drive seems to be spinning slower and more than necessary polling infos for installation.
I have temporarily installed Linux mint 9 via oem cd and all went smoothly and swiftly as it is supposed to be with this machine.

Can anyone help please???
