Assistance please to ATI driver install.

Having problems trying to install using ati-driver-installer from ATI. It tells me that it has detected the xserver and "Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install" and thats it, the install is not progressing further. I have downloaded and installed the kernel headers as specified The display defaults currently to 800x600. Should be able to be set as 1280x800.
All assistance very much appreciated.
