Greetings:

I am new to Linux. I recently installed FC 6 on an IBM T30 and want to get a known-good Netgear WG511 working on it (it worked fine on the same system with XP).

I went through the network wizeard (Gnome desktop) GUI to add a wireless card, but there were no drivers listed for the card (nor any other wireless cards that I noticed).

Any assitance would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that I am more or less completely new to the Linux environment.

Thanks,
Dave

There are several different versions of the WG511 card with different chipsets. Some of them are supported in Linux, some aren't. See: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_part.php?brandname=Netgear

Markkuk,

Thanks for your reply. It looks like my card is supported, unless it was manufactured in China, which I am unable to determine by looking at the card. I followed the link to Prism54, but from there it's not clear to me if I need to download drivers or if the drivers are already present and I need to take some steps to enable them or otherwise initialize the card.

If it weren't manuafactured in China, should I assume that OS should detect it, and I should only have to plug in my settings?

Thanks again; sorry for the dumb questions. I'm a little out of my element with Linux, but interested in learning more.

Dave
