GNOME Disappearing?

I had been using GNOME as my environment for a couple of days when today it started to boot to just a xwindows prompt. I installed XFCE, and it ran fine. I found out that somehow my GNOME had been uninstalled. I install it again and a few hours later my screen boots back to the xwindows prompt. I then run the session with XFCE and find that GNOME had again been uninstalled and unchecked in my Add/Remove Software. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
