View Full Version : Need confirmation of possible Feora Wine issue

I've stumbled into a problem with Wine and DeusEx, that doesn't seem to affect any other users. Before I submit a bug report to the Fedora bugzilla, and to rule out any other problems that may indicate that this issue is local to my machine, I wanted to first make sure not any other fedora user is experiencing this issue.

The problem I've been having with Deus Ex is that the screen goes completely dark and nothing is rendered on the screen. The game sounds and sounds events to menu selections can be still heard, but I have to exit the game blindly from the menu (esc+up+enter+enter) as nothing is there. Since Deus Ex was "recently" moved to the platinum status in the Wine AppDB, I thought that this might be a problem local to the Fedora build. But in order to confirm that, and that it is not a problem local to my machine, it'd be best if others could confirm this.

This problem has happened with both D3D and OpenGL modes, and I quickly found out that I could get my desktop "back" after exiting ghe game if I opnened nvidia-settings (either typing nvidia-settings from the terminal window DeusEx was launched or by alt+F2 run command window). Also since nvidia-settings was able to get the desktop back, I thought that the problem shoud lie in the ini for the game, and after looking at the ini for some clues, I quckly noticed for the [WinDrv.WindowsClient] section that brightness was set to 0.0, bumping it to 0.5 revealed that the windows were there, only no game was being rendered. I could still exit blindly and all, but this is getting wierder and wierder. I've but only a few tests left, and I'm not sure I'll be able to pin point this issue. That's why, before I submit a useless bug report, that I ask if anyone else can also confirm this.

This is what I'm running currently to test this:

FC6 x86_64

kernel 2.6.20 stock

nVIDIA 1.0-9755 drivers

Wine-0.9.32 (latest available from Extras)

DeusEx 1112fm patch.

Pretty much the only thing left to test to uninstall and re-install the game and see if that makes any difference at all, and to be frank, I don't think it'll make the slightest difference.
