Sorry if someone has asked this before.

I looked at the instructions here (http://fedoranews.org/jorge/howto/howto01.shtml) but haven't had success with arjanv binary packages in the past because I have a AMD k6-2. I do not know if this condition has changed with his packages since.

Anyway that is no longer the issue.

I would like to download and install the vanilla source 2.6.x kernel.

Basically all I need to know once i have downloaded the source is, step by step instruction on how to prepare and get to the config screen.

If I get a kernel panic on reboot, how do I backup my .config file and "clean" the directory so that further compiles are successful.

Also will I have any problems using vanilla source?

Look at http://www.digitalhermit.com/~kwan/kernel.html
for a HOWTO on kernel building.....

Thanks.

I was looking for something redhat/fedora specific.

I will see what I can do.
