All this firewalls attempts to make it easier to setup IPTables based firewalls on Linux systems.
It will be the right tool if don't have the time and/or the interest to spend hours in front of the IPTables.

I use FireStarter.

This list could also go in the Links forum.

i just wondered whether there is a similar firewall in linux like tiny or kerio for windows, where the firewall puts a message on the screen each time an unknown program tries to connect to the internet and let me decide what to do (accept or deny, create a rule, and so on) ... it would be a great help!

any ideas?

I use BBI Agent, available from www.bbiagent.net. It works great and can also function as your print server. The only thing against them is that it hasn't been updated for a while.

Most of our Server use

Shorewall + Snort + SnortSam + Oinkmaster

Shorewall => Easy Rule management with Iptables

Snort => Good IDS with rule based

SnortSam => Its make use the snort rule and block ips dynamically

Oinkmaster => Update the snort rule

hope that helps if somebody thinks about good host or network based firewall
