I recognise that there are millions of topics, posts etcetera about this topic but I have as of yet managed to find a solution.
Basically I am an on-and-off Linux user of about 5 years now and always get frustrated with how nothing really works how I want it too. I can install Windows and everything just happens, but then that is to be expected. I'd love for this to be the case in Windows. Especially in my current new foray into the world of Fedora (My previous experience is with OpenSUSE).
I have installed it just fine and everything is working more or less how I want. I spent a good 3 days or so attempting to get the resolution correct on my monitor and I have finally cracked it.
Interestingly I can only get the correct resolution of 1280x1024 when I have both monitors enabled which I do through the System >> Administration >> Display tool and then edit the xorg.conf file to give it the right modes and to swap them over so the screens are the right side of each other. Once I reset this will all work just fine and I'm happy (Fedora is very nice looking).
Now, I want to enable Beryl. I know that on a single screen with the resolution wrong so that I can hardly see anything because it's on like 640x480 Beryl will install and load perfectly without error and all the effects work. The second I enable the second screen though it ceases to work.
I know Beryl can work with a second screen, I've seen videos and comments and screenshots of it doing exactly that. How come I can't get it to work? I've read a couple of guides, faqs etc that mention all sorts of subtle differences between multi-head, dual-head, xinerama and to be honest I am completely lost.
I have got it to the point where Beryl will load with two screens enabled but will not produce any special effects or anything. If I do set it as the window manager (It won't always let me) then the screens go white and I get dumped into a command line view.
I have attached my xorg.conf as it is currently (Working how I want it too minus Beryl). I am using (trying to use) the Beryl packages from the extras repository as advised by the Beryl wiki guide. And I have no ATI drivers or anything installed, I am using the default drivers that were installed with Fedora which seem to perform better than the other ones do anyway.
Apologies for the length of post, I'm attempting to give as much background information as I can about what it is I'm trying to do. I look forward to someone smarter than me solving it in like a paragraph, haha. Thanks in advance for your help.
