It seems like my DVD burner can't be found. Nothing happens when I insert a CD or DVD in it. I've tried to burn both CDs and DVDs with Fedora's burning tool, but only CDs seem to work. When I try to burn a DVD, I can hear it burning but then nothing happens when I insert it into another computer.
Any ideas?

This is a problem with FC 6. It has a problems with correctly iding combo cd/dvd's there is a work temp fix that works; check out this link http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=133502&page=3&pp=15 and follow the temp fix procedure. You can also make sure you are currently updated on you system, altough I haven't not seen any resolution to it yet. Just tried a update and still have the problem. LOL.

Does this problem exist on FC5 as well? I forgot to mention that, i use FC5.

It didn't, but who know with latest updates. If you open your burner software does it see the drive? I used k3b and without the temp fix k3b could see the drive.
And does the drive wok with XP or another *nix distro, just to rule out that the drive is not bad.

It does. It recognizes DVD discs as well, so I don't understand why it won't burn them properly.
I haven't tried using another OS. I tried to use a live CD, but I couldn't boot from it.

Have you tried different media, you may have some bad media.
Did it work before on this install you are currently using.?
What are you using for your cd/dvd sortware. May wan to try re-installing it maybe something got corrupted.

Nope, I haven't.
I installed the drive after I installed Fedora, so I don't know. However, I just tried with another drive and that didn't work either. That was an IDE drive and my new driv is S-ATA so I don't think there is a problem with the hardware.
I've tried Fedora's built-in burning tool, Nero and K3B.

The OS "should" not have a problem with the install of the hardware after the initial install. But neither should FC6 have a problem IDing and auto mounting combo dvd's, which it still does. So it could be something in FC.
Did you have a look at the post I suggested, it's allot of reading but something may be applicable, also do a dmesg | tail , it is very verbose, but look and see it it shows your drive(s) in the list anywhere.
That will at least show if the kernel is picking it up.
If it does I am not sure where to go from there, because my drives show in dmesg but they still will not auto mount, so maybe the temp fix may work for you also.
Is install of FC5 your primary OS?
You may want to try a livecd of Mepis (or other Linux livecd) and see if you have similar issues.
From what you have tried so far it doesn't sound like it's hardware related.
It obviously booted from bios so you could install, so I would tend to have to say it's not hardware.
Again as with my issue my drives work fine with another OS's, but not in FC with out the temp fix.
