I've almost given up on FC6 after a week of re-installs, hangs, etc. (see my other posts). I'm going to try one more time. I'm installing on hda, which already has WinXP.I've use Partition Magic to create a 64GB extended/logical partition on hda. I have a RH8 installation on hdb (been running 24/7 since 2005) which is configured in three partitions of /, /boot and swap. I also used the RH8 parted to delete my previous crappy FC6 installation on hda, leaving it unallocated for now.

When I boot from my FC6 DVD, I select hda for the target. The installation program wants to put an LVM on hda, with an allocation for /boot and /, but appears to want to use the hdb swap partition, since it does not list a swap partition on hda. Perhaps this is the problem with my eventual hangs, because I show 0% swap in use as the system dies. Therefore, this time, I plan to not use LVM, and manually partition during installation. My question is this: after I delete all the LVM stuff on the installation dialog, should I have it create /boot, / and swap on hda, or should I check both hda and hdb as targets and then use the existing swap partition on hdb? I'm afraid to choose hdb as a tartget in case the installation wipes out my working RH8. Can anyone tell me, in detail, how to accomplish this?

BTW, I am using XP's Bootmagic on the MBR, and having Grub put a bootloader on the front of the logical partition on hda to boot FC6.

I usually do "manual partitioning" when installing, because I'm not comfortable with LVM and I like a more traditional scheme. I suggest you to use the gparted live cd (the interface is not much different from partition magic): create a partition for /, a partition for /home and a partition for swap on the logical partition you already created on hda (btw: you can safely use the swap on the other disk).
During the installations, select manual partitioning and edit the existing layout: you don't have to repartition nor reformat - simply set the mountpoints.
