View Full Version : Compiling kernel on FC5/5 for PPC

Hello all,

Has anyone compiled a custom PowerPC kernel for Fedora Core 5 or 6? I have tried all of the instructions that I could find on the Internet, but they only seem to work for i386 FC 5/6.

Specifically, the "make install" command doesn't work on PPC (when making a traditional custom kernel), nor does "yum install fedora-rpmdevtools" (when making a custom kernel installable as an RPM). Does compiling a kernel for PPC involve special steps?

Thanks for any help that you can give. I really am at my wit's end on this. :)

fedora-rpmdevtools did get renamed to rpmdevtools. And it's noarch, so arch should not matter.

How exactly does the make command fail?

You can rebuild the kernel source rpm just like other rpms with rpmbuild. Or use mock to build it cleanly in a root.
