or to continually boot into X edit /etc/inittab

I heard FC5 runs painfully slow on the PS3 (only uses the POWER core, but no the other units on the cell...) and it has no support for the graphics chip, so the vesa or vga drivers are used which also very slow.

I think that should be expected given the new CELL architecture. That was before the merge of patches from SCE (Sony Computer Entertaiment) themselves in the Linux kernel. PS3 uses a modified Nvidia Geforce 6xxx IIRC on which the specification is not released.

I thought that (just like the XBox... original one) it packed a nonstandard top-of-the-line (then) GPU, in which case, it should have been something similar to a 7900. At any rate, I doubt Sony or nVidia will have Linux drivers for the PS3 GPU anyway. Unless the new Yellowdog 5 for PS3 has it already included.

I wonder what an

lspci

returns in a PS3? :D
