First time installing Linux so I really am not familiar with the commands. The install went smoothly, but now when FC6 goes to boot, it loads all the files, and then stops sending information to the monitor. I have a Radeon x1600 card and have seen several people post with this problem, however, I don't know ANYTHING about even how to get to a command prompt, let alone using Livna.org and such. Can anyone walk me through the steps I need to take to get this up and running?

ATI Radeon x1600 512MB

Can you tell me where the posts are that people previously had that problem. Then maybe I can help you out.
Probably something is wrong with your xorg.conf ... not sure why, though. What happens if you press ctrl-alt-f1 does it bring up a command prompt?

Well, I get the original boot screen that says "Fedora Core 6" and I can bring up a command prompt by hitting "c" That is what I don't understand. All the commands, such as vi, su, and rpm aren't listed in the command list and it says "Error 27: Unrecognizable Command" The only time those work is if I am in the Recovery Console, and when I am there, it says that etc/x11/xorg.conf doesn't even exist. I tried to figure it out, but I just keep getting lost.

Dude, I think you're problem is that you need to take the cd or dvd out!

Yeah I thought that was the problem too. But I took it out and after the monitor went black, I hit ctrl+alt+f1 and the screen came back on, but it just displays what it previously had on the screen and hangs there. The only thing that changes anything is if I this ctrl+alt+f8, which makes the screen black again, or if I hit ctrl+alt+del, which restarts the system. I verified the DVD and even re-installed just in case, but nothing happens. It just hangs.

Have you ever restarted the system without the DVD or CD in? That 'fedora core 6' screen you are getting is the installation screen from the CD I think.

I have restarted the system without the DVD in it. The screen that I am getting is all blue in the background. It says "Preparing to boot Fedora core 6 in X seconds" and then after the countdown it "boots"

I've joined this forum for this same problem.
I've installed Fedora Core 6 after post it goes through checking everything but then the screen just goes blank. Nothing forever.
I know nothing about Linux.

Do you guys see the fedora DNA screen and a 20 second boot sequence where it says [OK] a bunch of times/ loads yoru network etc?
If so, your problem probably lies with your video card configuration in xorg.conf. Can you tell me what card and monitor you have? If possible post your xorg.conf try hitting ctrl-alt-f1 when the screen goes blank to get a command line login.

Yeah it says OK a bunch of times, but as I said, after the screen goes blank, if I hit ctrl+alt+f1, it turns back on and just hangs there
