View Full Version : FC6 won't boot after adding SATA adapter

I got my FC6 all running happily, including pptp and mythtv, and all yum updates.
So.... thought I would back it up - it's on an older 60gb Maxtor IDE drive.

I had a new 80gb Maxtor SATA/150 and Maxtor adapter laying around so figured to just dd my install drive to that one.

Problem - I installed the adapter and drive and I only get into the boot process this far - I see the grub commands:
root (hdxxxxx)
kernel xxxx
initrd xxxx

And it stops right there.

Unplug the drive - power and signal.
Same thing.
Remove the SATA adapter and it boots OK again.
The system bios recognizes the SATA adapter/drive and installs the bios.

Anyone else encountered this? Any ideas how to correct it?

Thanks,

JimW

If you're talking about the usb to ide/sata adapter, then, yes....I have experienced the same exact thing and am currently looking for a solution. I have an PATA drive that I want to access in Fedora but it doesn't show up in "Computer".
