nvidia driver installed lost cd/dvd drive

i just installed nvidias drivers for my gforce 6100 all seens to have gone well till i tried to use cd/dvd drive now it says "no optical drives detected"
unfortunatly i did d/l the driver directly from nvidia (found out that wasnt a good idea after)
so far this seems to be only problem as my video is working much better now
please keep in mind i am new to linux when answering this be very specific in what i need to do.
i am also running fd6

Your graphics driver should have nothing to do with your cd drives. There is a fix on here for Enabling DMA where it labels your drive as scd0 instead of hdc. If you applied that fix, then undo it and your drive will show back up.
