I bought a flippin' Samsung SATA II hdd and it has been no end of grief. The stupid thing has a knackered sector and keeps falling over. I've tried turning off the NCQ, but it still falls over.
It is part of my LVM and, unfortunately, I chose XFS for the file system because of the large files to be stored. Now I am trying to get shot of the disc back to the suppliers, but I can't remove it from the LVM because I cannot shrink XFS.
I've got 2x250GB discs used in the LVM, as well as the 500GB Samsung. I can muster about 200, maybe 250GB of space elsewhere, and have 500GB of data on the LVM.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get the data off the Samsung disc and on to either the other 2x250GB or onto the space elsewhere?
I don't know how to tell which physical discs data is stored on.
Any advice would be welcome.
